On the evening of Thursday, March 21, 2024, a tragic hit-and-run accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 65 and Airport Road in Foley, Alabama, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Nycole Tasheena. The Foley Police Department reported that 42-year-old Kaleb Rayn Owen, also from Foley, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death or personal injury, a serious felony offense.

The incident unfolded just after 8 p.m., when local law enforcement and emergency services, including the Foley Police and Fire Department and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office deputies, arrived at the scene to find Ms. Tasheena deceased by the roadside. The investigation into this heart-wrenching incident intensified when, around 11 p.m. that same night, Owen contacted 911, claiming he believed he had hit a deer. However, upon arrival at his residence, Foley police detectives and members of the FDP’s Accident Investigation Unit discovered that his 2008 white BMW exhibited damage consistent with the crash site evidence.

During initial questioning, Owen cooperated with the investigators but later sought legal representation. The police concluded that the damage on Owen’s vehicle matched the evidence at the scene, leading to his arrest based on sufficient evidence and probable cause.

This incident has shaken the community of Foley, bringing to light the devastating consequences of hit-and-run accidents. The loss of Nycole Tasheena in such tragic circumstances underscores the importance of road safety awareness and the legal obligations of drivers involved in accidents. The ongoing investigation by the Foley Police Department aims to provide justice for the victim and her family, reinforcing the message that leaving the scene of an accident, especially one involving death or serious injury, is a grave offense with severe legal consequences.
